Rotten slot REVIEW

Rotten ReviewThis reviewer is more fascinated by our collective fascination for zombies, than for zombies as such. It’s almost like someone or something is trying to tell us something, but it’s just not quite clear what it is. Anyway, Rotten takes you into a bleak post-apocalyptic world set in a fairground filled with the undead creatures, and they basically just stand there and stare at you with piercing eyes that shine in the dark.

It’s a menacing display for sure, and the artwork is overall highly impressive for a zombie slot. Hacksaw comes up with a new innovation in this release as well, and the trademarked SwitchSpins feature livens up the base game with symbol transformation respins. The same goes on in both bonus rounds, and the switched symbols never reset in the top-tier Total Takeover round. This can lead to payouts up to 10,000x your stake, and horror fans should definitely give this one a chance.

Rotten Slot Features

The 5 premium character symbols are hardly creatures you would want to meet on a nocturnal stroll, and they pay between 15 and 40 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins. The stretching hand Wild symbol can appear anywhere, and it steps in for pay symbols to help complete wins. Wilds are also the highest paying symbol in the game, awarding 50x your stake for 6 on a payline.

The trademarked SwitchSpins feature triggers when you land a Switch symbol, and this gives you 1 to 10 respins. Symbols are selected randomly to be replaced by either the top-tier clown symbol, or by wilds. You can get more symbol replacements and respins by landing new Switch symbols, and you get an overview of the switched symbols above the grid

The Mad Scientist Bonus Round triggers from 3 mad scientist scatters anywhere in view, and this awards 10 free spins. The feature plays out similarly to the base game, but it comes with a higher likelihood of landing Switch symbols. Nothing is guaranteed, however, so the feature is a bit hit or miss.

You need 3 total takeover scatters in view to trigger the Total Takeover Bonus Round, and it can also trigger from within the Mad Scientist feature. Either way you get 10 free spins, and you get a higher chance of landing the Switch symbol also here.

Also, the selected switched symbols don’t reset per free spin, like in the Mad Scientist feature and in the base game. This increases your chances of landing full screen wins with wilds or the top-tier symbol. You win +4 extra spins from landing 3 total takeover scatters.

The Bonus/Feature Buy feature is available in some jurisdictions, but not in the UK for sure. If available, however, it comes with with following options:

Bonushunt FeatureSpins (very high volatility and top-tier RTP of 96.26 %) - pay 3x your stake for spins with a 5x higher likelihood of triggering a bonus round.

Switch FeatureSpins (extreme volatility and top-tier RTP of 96.16 %) - pay 20x your stake to get a guaranteed Switch symbol per spin.

Mad Scientist (high volatility and top-tier RTP of 96.26 %) - pay 110x your stake to get this bonus round.

Total Takeover (very high volatility and top-tier RTP of 96.26 %) - pay 250x your stake to get this bonus round.

The 200 Spins Rotten Slot Experience

You get to see a few smaller base game wins, before we purchase the Mad Scientist bonus round at 0:45 into the 3:20-minute highlights video. We buy the Total Takeover round right after, and it triggers at 1:48 into the video. You can see for yourself how it all played out by simply hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

We were immediately impressed by the gloomy artwork Hacksaw has come up with for this game, and Rotten is pretty much the perfect title as well. The bizarre clown and zombie just standing there in their wobbly ways adds to the highly tense and menacing atmosphere, but don’t expect all that much to happen in the base game most of the time. Hacksaw is known for brutal volatility, and this release is certainly no exception.

You are basically waiting around for the Switch symbol to land, and there are plenty of dead spins to wade through between anything significant. The feature can deliver at times, but that is much more likely to happen in the top-tier Total Takeover bonus round. This is where this bleak creation shines, if we can call it that, at least when things go your way. Close to, or full-screen wins on repeat with high-value symbols, is both fun and potentially lucrative to the tune of 10,000x your stake.
